Henry was the main healer in Artimé. He was the younger brother of Lani and the son of Gunnar Haluki.

Personality

Henry is smart and he likes to help everyone who needs it. He is very curious and observant. He is an excellent healer, and he is always working tirelessly in the hospital ward.

Alex says that Henry grew up fast, and is one of the most responsible and selfless people he knows.[1] He's loyal and focused.[1] Talon says that he's wise beyond his years.[2] Earl says that he's a nice kid and very respectful.[3] Ishibashi says that he's a special young man; a grand prize.[4]

Appearance

Henry has blue eyes[5], black hair, and olive skin. When Kaylee is trying to guess his ancestry, she suggests Henry may be of Hawaiian/Asian/Polynesian descent.[6]

He starts off pretty short[7], but is almost the same height as his father by the age of eleven.[8] He's typically wearing a healer's coat.[9]

"Lani’s little brother, Henry, ten years old but still about the size of a gargoyle (and, if you asked Lani, similar to a gargoyle in looks as well)..."
― The Unwanteds: Island of Silence, "A New Spell" (176)
"He looked up at Alex with solemn eyes—the same blue as Lani’s."
― The Unwanteds: Island of Silence, "A New Day" (348)
"Henry was nearly as tall as his father now..."
― The Unwanteds: Island of Graves, "A Trip to the Ancients Sector" (451)
"...I’d say you’ve got some Asian roots, or maybe Polynesian or Hawaiian..."
― The Unwanteds: Island of Dragons, "The Dragon's Triangle" (81)
"...Henry racing toward him, one arm slid inside his healer’s coat, the rest of it flying behind."
― The Unwanteds Quests: Dragon Bones, "Breaking the News" (4)

History

Henry is the son of Gunnar Haluki, a governor of Quill, and grew up in the governor’s section of Quill. His house had more laid-back rules compared to the rest of Quill, but because he was so much younger than his sister, Lani, he didn't seem to have the same rules-breaking relationship with his father. Still, Gunnar recognized that Henry would be better off in Artimé, and he was Purged a whole three years early; however, by this point, he knew about his fate and gladly accepted it.

Relationships

Lani Haluki

Lani is Henry's older sister. The two of them are very close.

Gunnar Haluki

Gunnar is Henry's father. Gunnar cares about his son deeply, even sending him to Artimé a whole three years early.

Thatcher Haluki

Thatcher and Henry are said to be "partners in all things," a cheap way of saying that yes, they are husbands. The two seem very close, especially after Henry stitched up his face during the final battle. They likely got married at some point during the early Quests books, because Thatcher doesn't use a last name in Dragon Captives, but is referred to as "Thatcher Haluki" in Dragon Curse. The two have adopted six children together[10], sharing a distaste for the Unwanteds system that Quill still uses.

Alex Stowe

Henry looks up to and respects Alex greatly. Alex filled a brotherly role to Henry during the period of no magic.

Crow

Crow is Henry's best friend, and they have been since Island of Fire.

Abilities/Weaknesses

Henry is incredibly talented with magic, even going into Magical Warrior Training at 10 years old. He is potentially the youngest person to ever get his component vest.

Henry is especially good when it comes to healing magic, and healing in general. After meeting the grandfathers on the Island of Shipwrecks, Henry creates his own garden on Artimé's lawn.[11] With the herbs inside, Henry has made great strides in medicines.

Henry used to have the magical blue seaweed, but used it all on Karkinos. He felt guilty about having it and never having the time to ask if he should use it; he's glad when he uses it all up.
