SPOILER WARNING!
This article contains heavy discussion of plot details from the newest Unwanteds Quests books. You are at risk of major spoilers if you haven't read up to the newest installment in the series. Be careful!

Artimé is a magical world created by Marcus Today. It is the main setting of the Unwanteds series, being the place where the Unwanteds were sent to after they were Purged. To Quill, it was known as the "Death Farm" and seen as simply a small grey shack, to keep its identity secret. The land prides itself on creativity, individualism, a lack of rules, and magic. It is located on the island of Quill, which is also its northern neighbor.

Locations/Appearance

As the Death Farm, Artimé is a bland and gray place, with the Great Lake of Boiling Oil (an illusion) and a small gray shack. It is separated from Quill by a large, black iron gate, and does not have a barbed wire ceiling above like Quill does.[1]

As Artimé, the land is miles wide, with a large lawn (that can be magically extended if it needs to[2]), a huge magical stone mansion, a large jungle, and beaches.

In Island of Graves, Henry builds garden boxes on the lawn that he calls his greenhouse, inspired by the grandfathers on the Island of Shipwrecks.[3]

History

Trivia

  • Artimé is pronounced AR-ti-may, according to Lisa McMann herself.[4]
  • By the time of the first book, Marcus estimates there to be about 500 Unwanteds living in Artimé.[5]
    • Based on the fact that 20 Unwanteds was Quill's biggest Purge[6], Marcus had been paralyzing and saving Unwanteds on the gray plot of land for over 25 years. (This matches up with Claire's age, being that that's when Marcus let Unwanteds start living in Artimé, as she was purged 24 years before the first book.)[7]
  • Magic users from Artimé are called mages...mostly. Sometimes they're called magicians.[8]
  • Early Artimé had a sound barrier over it to keep it hidden.[9]
  • They don't use the same year system as us.[10]
  • They probably don't have American accents, as Kaylee's is strange to them.[11] Or she just has a Boston accent, which is also possible.
  • New residents do have to get a room assigned to them.[12]
